Tag–I’m it!
Juanita, over at There Can Only Be Juan, tagged me to do this roundup of posts. I’ve seen it done so well at other sites that, I’ve got to admit, I was a little intimidated. But I do think it’s a great chance for me to remind some of you of my hits (and misses) here so far. So, here goes:
My Most Beautiful Post: Rosemary Wine Root Vegetables
I’m giving this one to a very early post with a recipe for a gorgeous dish. I chose this one partly because of the beauty of the post, but also because the dish itself is so fantastic: beautiful, yes, but also delicious and so easy to make.
My Most Popular Post: Coconut Chocolate Mousse
No competition here; this post has been my number one from the day it was posted. I think it’s a combination of the addictive quality of chocolate and the simplicity of the dish. It’s rich and elegant and about a gazillion other great things, but the bottom line is, it is so easy to make, and requires just 3-4 ingredients. As support for my theory that the simplicity is the reason for it’s popularity, my second most popular post is my spicy kale chips, which also included only a few ingredients.
My Most Controversial Post: Pink Bean Appetizer
I haven’t really had many controversial posts here–which some might say meant that I wasn’t a good blogger–but this one did get me a couple of emails and an in-person comment from a friend of mine. The issue is that I have it categorized under “gluten-free,” because the main part of the recipe (the beans) is gluten-free. However, I photographed the appetizer on top of non-gluten-free crackers (and I didn’t specify “gluten-free crackers” in the recipe). I stand by my decision to classify it as gluten-free, mainly because I don’t want my celiac friends to miss out on a great recipe just because it isn’t categorized in broad terms.
My Most Helpful Post: The Best Method for Making Bruschetta
For this post, I went through three common ways to make bruschetta, in order to find out what yielded the best-tasting tomato bruschetta. (Hint: the traditional Italian way didn’t win!)
A Post Whose Success Surprised Me: Chilled Avocado and Mint Soup
I didn’t expect this one to be a huge hit, but it’s consistently in my top five, traffic-wise. When I first made it, I remember thinking, “I’m going to be the only one in the world who thinks chilled avocado soup sounds good.” Apparently, I was wrong!
My Most Underrated Post: Mushroom Wine Sauce with Whole-Wheat Linguine & Rancheros Sin Huevos
These two are tied; both of them were early on in my blogging life, and I really feel like neither of them got the attention they deserved. The mushroom wine sauce is my favorite of all the pasta dishes on this site; it’s warm and earthy and so delightfully filling. And I thought the use of hash browns as a base for huevos rancheros was inspired, if I do say so myself.
Post I Am Most Proud Of: Chocolate Snow Donuts
It’s no secret that I love my niece and nephew, and I am so proud that I was able to make a delicious and semi-healthy treat with them. I’ll turn them into bakers yet! 🙂
So, there you go–my seven links. I am supposed to nominate some of my favorite bloggers to do this, but to be honest, I’m dying to see what all of my blogging friends put up for their seven posts, so I hereby nominate all of my foodie friends, especially my friends over at Foodbuzz. Link away–and make sure you let us know in the comments that you’ve gotten it up and running so we can all see each other’s links!
Your coconut chocolate mousse IS outrageously good! I especially loved that it didn’t use dairy cream. My hubby and I loved the subtle taste of the coconut that permeated the decadent dark chocolate. It’s a real winner at our house 🙂
I love mushrooms and mushroom sauces. White wine IS particularly good for deglazing a mushroomy pan for making sauce! A long time ago (in my chef-fy days), I used to make a sauce for chicken using sauteed mushrooms (in butter and mustard). Then I’d deglaze the pan with brandy, and finish it off with cream. It was insanely decadent!
Thanks for playing along. I enjoyed your 7 links immensely 🙂
i think you did a wonderful job with your 7 links! now i’m off to check out that mousse…
